GEM Conference – October 10, 2019

This year’s theme for the 15th annual Geriatric Emergency Medicine Conference was “Frailty in the Emergency Department: Hidden Challenges and Innovations”

AboutOur Keynote speaker will be Dr. Michael J Bullard, M.D., CCFP(EM), ABEM, FRCPC, Professor Emeritus of Emergency Medicine at the University of Alberta. As a member of the Canadian Triage and Acuity Scale (CTAS) National Working Group, Dr. Bullard led the creation of the Frailty CTAS modifier and developed the eTRIAGE clinical decision support tool. He has written book chapters, published in 107 peer reviewed journals and explored many areas of interest to GEM including febrile neutropenia, sepsis, acute headache, “rapid assessment zones”, the impact of ED overcrowding and presentation patterns in medical center and community hospital ED settings.

The conference also included workshops on mental health issues, Parkinson’s disease, vision impairment screening and management, acute head injury, and more.
